Inspired by the cultural musings of the 1980s and 90s, “Dope Boy Chic” is an exhibition that pays rare homage to the influence, swag, and dress of the neighborhood dope boy. Despite the American government’s strategy to destroy Black communities by pumping drugs into Black neighborhoods and creating the dope boy figure, the dope boy figure constructed an image and persona that would go on to influence worldwide fashion trends and culture , creating a sounding board for self-expression. The exhibition highlights creatives from multiple are disciplines including, music, fashion, visual and performing arts.
